If you must deviate from the Cheeseburger, I highly recommend this unusual restaurant in Los Feliz, CA. The Tam O’ Shanter. In fact it is the only place I will eat Prime Rib. Their cream corn is addictive and the whole experience is very entertaining! +++++ They have a Surf & Turf situation for 2 ($89) happening in September! I promise you next month will not end without me eating there! They are affiliated with Lawrys Steakhouse. It sounds familiar because you have their seasoning in your kitchen! :) Brig
P.S. After this meal you will be unable to move. Dessert, even though included, will not get finished. You will have to unbutton your pants, so ladies, where a stretchy skirt or loose dress. TRUST ME!

I rounded up Indy, our dog and headed to Palm Springs. Idyllwild was our first stop. Cheeseburger date! Went to The Little Chef in the Woods. I saw their website first. Very fancy. First let me start by telling you how welcoming they were. They kept my water and a bowl for Indy, full. Extremely wonderful service, however, I was there for a great Cheeseburger. After 2 hours in the car, I was hungry. I got my usual- Cheeseburger- meat, american cheese & bacon.
When it arrived, the crinkle fries were a huge bonus, but my plate was sprinkled with parsley. Argh! & an orange slice? Odd. Unfortunately my burger was more like Cheeseburger jerky. It was tough and chewy. Fries were perfect, but I almost napped on my plate because they were playing this really super mellow fairy music, sorry I don’t know how else to call it. Lots of harps. This Cheeseburger was on the low end for me. I still ate it, but was bummed out. Until we went to Nomad Ventures, a hiking/outdoor sport store and they had shoes for Indy. The pavement in Palm Springs, even at night, was going to be too hot for his little feet. Here’s what happened when the shoes got put on in Nomad..
After about 5 minutes he was walking fine.
Then there were some crazy roads to get from Idyllwild to Palm Springs. 109 degrees greeted us when we arrived at The Saguaro at 4:30p.m. Hotel was really great and they allowed dogs for no extra charge!
Over the next day and a half we drove allover Palm Springs with a Mid-Century Modern map and captured the beautiful homes on film and by photograph.
Left Palm Springs yesterday at 11:30a.m. still dreaming of making the perfect Cheeseburger a reality. Then it hit me- Dog Haus in Pasadena!
2 hours & 2 dinosaurs later(Cabezon), I was finally wrapping my mouth around a Juicy Lucy! It’s a hamburger patty with a pocket of American cheese in the center.
I’d like to rename it -Hot Gooey Louie after the explosion of cheese i experienced when I cut it in half! Insane.
The patty was held by 4 Hawaiian rolls cut in half. Okay- that’s a HUGE burger. I had tater tots with it and was finally satisfied! My Juicy Lucy had a lot of seasoning to offset the sweetness of the bun. Not only was the food excellent, but the entire restaurant is wildly delicious, including the staff! The menu offers of course, hot dogs & more 10 ways to Sunday, including old school bottled coca cola and I even saw Yoo-Hoo! I’ve been away. Mentally. After 3 excruciating years of watching my mom’s health worsen, she passed away. Now that she is on the other side of the moon, my description of heaven, I am back. She is finally getting the peace she has deserved for a long time. It is a relief to know she is no longer suffering. Nothing prepared me for these past 3 years. It got too difficult to keep up with everyday life fun stuff. Fortunately with amazing friends around me, I was able to get by.

To celebrate, I’m making a Cheeseburger! I start by googling “Best burger recipe”. Being the plain jane I am when it comes to food, truth be told, most recipes were to festive for me, however I noticed on common thread- Adding ground short rib to your ground beef. Hmmm. Great idea!
I head to Albertson’s and buy 85% ground beef because it’s fatty and on sale. Fat=YUMMY! I also pick up short rib. Unfortunately after some reason I couldn’t understand, the meat counter couldn’t ground it for me. I decide I can just chop it finely and add it like I do with chocolate chips in cookie batter. (Mmmm chocolate chip cookies!)
I buy cheese from the deli counter. Mild Cheddar for Todd (my main squeeze. Okay, my only squeeze) & White American for myself. I’m really excited they had white! Some thick cut Farmers John bacon. Aw yeah! Things are gonna get crazy!
Fresh tomatoes & lettuce for my awesome neighbors, Sonny & Carol, who are brave enough to join us for my cooking. (I did cheat and borrowed BBQ beans & potato salad from the deli counter. Shhh.)
As you know from my previous 20 Cheeseburger Dates, I am very particular about my buns! All of them. I love pretzel buns, however recently my taste buds have been confused by Hawaiian Bread. At Target I find Hawaiian Bread Buns! Score. I also pick up sesame seed buns for Todd and possibly the guests. Gotta give them options. Which would you choose?
I’ve handed the grilling over to Todd. You know how men love to man the grill! I make threats if he screws up the meat. He politely ignores me.

After the meal we both agreed they could have been cooked for less time. Regardless they were still freakin awesome and dangerously happened in my backyard! (Just minutes ago he grilled me another burger & it is perfection. I’m eating it now as I type. Don’t YOU judge ME…)

I was all too excited when John Mccormick, hairstylist to the stars, & Erin Short of The Hair Nerds, assembled a Post ISSE Hair Show Cheeseburger Date at Hamburger Mary’s in Long Beach. Knowing there would be a handful of top industry peeps at this date, I invited Celeste to join me. Since she is almost finished with cosmetology school, so I knew she would grab some great inspiration from the range of pros on this date!

It was kinda awesome because as soon as we approached Hamburger Marys, a handful of the others rolled out of a cab. Some I had met before, but others that were Hairbrained.me friends, including founder Randy Taylor. Eeeek. #Stoked In fact, JoshXO interviewed me on CrossCheck TV a few months back but this was our first face to face meeting. #HesCool The Hair Nerds: Erin, Amanda & Carrie were also ready to get down on some burgers. So in rolls our group led by Douglas McCoy, super passionate Bumble stylist & House of Pop creator, to discover that our #’s were going to shut this restaurant down. A huge group beat us there to snag some tables and we weren’t even greeted by anyone. Drinks were grabbed at the bar and to be honest with you I couldn’t get the fact that a Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles was lurking right next door out of my mind. I did some simple math and realized we wouldn’t be served at Marys anytime tonight, so I rang up Roscoes and got the green light that they could make room for 12 of us within 20 minutes. #Amazing
When given the opportunity to get down on crispy hot fried chicken dipped in sweet hot maple syrup & delivered to my tongue on a fluffy bit of cinnamon waffle, the Cheeseburger would just have to wait. Sorry sweetheart!
Alicia & Peycey were the best servers we could want. They made all 12 of us feel like we were their only table, & trust me, we were not! I ate 3 crispy legs & a waffle dripping in syrup. It was to die for! I actually could have eaten double that, DON”T JUDGE ME, but I didn’t because of my red lipstick.

What did Celeste think about flying the Hamburger Marys coup over to Roscoes? “It was like a slam dunk. I was so excited. There was almost zero customer service at Marys and then when I grabbed my own menu, I was unimpressed. It looked like a TGIFridays menu.” “I love Roscoe’s. It is probably 1 of my top 5 favs.”Plus she adds “It was cool to sit next to Douglas Mccoy, since he is a huge supporter of all things p!ay hair lounge on Facebook and the other social sites that I manage.” “I was also thrilled to meet The Hair Nerds & a student that they were mentoring, Heather. Erin Short of The Hair Nerds recalls her fear when she saw the night taking a turn… “Since June I have been obsessively stalking Brig’s “Attack of the Cheeseburger” blog… I know that buns are important to her and she likes a hearty size burger with a nice pile of fries. Let’s just say my knowledge of Brig’s cheeseburger preferences is out of control (Some might even say it is even unhealthy!). At first, I felt panic beginning to overtake me when I heard our cheeseburger date was turning into a chicken date. However, being a “glass half full” kinda girl.. I thought -Score! We are going on the first chicken and waffles date!” How about the food, Erin?
"It tasted incredible! It was like my Grammy’s fried chicken and gravy… I would say I am a bit of a gravy connoisseur as I am from Texas. Also, it occurred to me as I drenched my crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside waffle in syrup that I had never actually eaten a waffle. How is it I just turned 30 and this delicious concoction has never graced my plate?! (For the record, Erin failed to clean off her plate, but I won’t discount her for that.. “At one point during the meal, JoshXO looked at me and said “This is the most fun I have had at a show in a really long time..”. Thinking over the weekend and sitting at this table surrounded by my favorite people in the world, hairdressers… I realized it had been an exceptional weekend. We could have gone on a Liver and Onions date and I wouldn’t have complained because we all shared it together.” said Erin.

It’s the afternoon before I head over to The Oinkster in Eagle Rock. My client Lori Paul who knows tons about great food, highly recommended this place. I decided to scope it out on Yelp and found over 2000 reviews! Whoa! Everyone loves it including Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It claims to be slow fast food made with quality ingredients. I wonder if they will hand me a pig snout to wear while I eat? I was warned there would be a line… Lets see… I’m leaving my house soon and I am hungry!
I am pleasantly surprised when I pull up. The Oinkster looks modern and really cool. For some reason I pictured some hokey bbq joint with a huge pig strapped to the top of the building. This was not that. I could see a healthy amount of people inside enjoying their food. This looked promising & I was starving! I walked up to the register, (no line, score!) and checked out the easy to read, under $10 menu.
When I was ready I really wasn’t sure if the silent guy behind the register was on break, or worked there. "Ready?" he whispers. Wow, that was that his greeting? Joseph might want to work on that. He had a “I could care less attitude.” "How may I help you?" would have satisfied me. I ordered my usual, bacon cheeseburger plain. 1/3lb patty. Got a bit crazy with the cheese and ordered a additional slice + fries, extra crispy and a vanilla shake. While I’m paying I get a tap on the shoulder and hear "Cheeseburger Date?" Who is this? I turn and it’s my talented make-up artist friend, Laci Hill. Who happens to be a Oinkster regular. Obviously she’d been holding out on me by not telling me about this place. Busted!
She invites me to join her. I do.
I can’t help but notice while I wait for my food and catch up with Laci, that there are 2 light bulbs out in the huge 1960 ball lights in the dining room. I feel that light bulbs out at a business show laziness. I’m crazy about that at my business. I also think it’s bad luck. Another thing I notice is a white napkin in the middle of the floor. My first instinct is to pick it up, yet I hold back to see how long it takes a Oinkster employee to pick it up.
Laci’s burger arrives first and I have to watch her begin the disappearing of the burger act. I’m dying, looks really good!
My vanilla shake arrives and I am pleasantly thrilled that it is perfect, Great taste because apparently they use Fosselman’s Ice Cream + the perfect thick/thin. Fits nicely through the straw and into my mouth!
Next my Cheeseburger & fries! I’m slightly alarmed at first because my Cheeseburger looks a bit small. I realize upon first bite that this is a illusion since the fries are a huge pile. The Cheeseburger is incredible. Its juicy and the bacon is smoked to perfection. The cheese is gooey and thats a great thing! The fries are actually exceptional. They taste unique. Crispy, yet light, I can’t get enough! YUUUUUUMMMMYYY! The only thing I would change is the bun. I know, I know, here I go again. Like Goldilocks with her porridge. The bun was a bummer. It reminded me of the buns you get with a food truck burger. Why are buns so often overlooked? I wish this perfect meat, cheese & bacon was delivered to my mouth on a fluffy, piece of heaven like the bun I had at Eureka Burger in San Luis Obispo.
Embarrassingly, before Laci tells you this, I could not finish my Oinkster. I did not get a snout to wear out of the restaurant. Actually I don’t think those exist, but they should!
As I left, the napkin still remained victorious on the floor after I watched at least 4 Oinkster employees step over it. Its the details everybody, it just is….
The Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, CA boasts “legendary hamburgers”. To me that is a pretty tall description and wanted to see if it held true. My company was Celeste, one of my favorite people.
She is a smart, beautiful, 18 years old and a Hollywood local. I thought her perspective would be a nice addition. We spent the morning on a Starline Tour Bus checking out movie star homes with the stylists from p!ay hair lounge. We worked up an appetite from screaming during our Ellen sighting and were ready for come massive lunch!
Hard Rock Cafe was nice enough to take a 9 person reservation 2 hours before we needed it. (p!ay hair lounge was joining our lunch) Our table was ready upon arrival.
Our server Jameson was super nice & willing to do anything we asked. I love that a server! Oddly enough he is also such a Cheeseburger fan that he has “Cheeseburger” tattooed around his ankle in Japanese characters. Wow! & He dropped sock to share.
Ordering was fast & easy. Of course Celeste and I had to check out their milkshakes. They were perfect. Sweet, but not too sweet & thin enough to get through a straw. While waiting for our food, I went on a adventure to check out the kitchen. It is in complete open view to the dining room. In fact I met Robert who happened to be grilling my burger over near open flames right in front of me.. drool.
Shortly after I got back to the table, our food arrived. I was immediatly concerned about the amount of fries. I like the fry pile higher than my burger. This was not.
However, the Cheeseburger looked delicious & it was. I liked the plastic guitars holding it together! Nice touch. I ate every last bite and so did Celeste. The meat was cooked to our request and still hot when it arrived at our table. They were generous with the cheese and it was plentiful with bacon. The bun was generic, but fresh.
When I asked Celeste what she thought, this is what came out barely in between bites, "By far the best burger I’ve ever had! It’s a 3 napkin burger!" I swear she barely took a breath until after she cleared the plate.
The price was fair and the atmosphere was interesting. Unique rock memorabilia was display all throughout Hard Rock Cafe. I particularly dug the pin wall-
Jameson was an excellent server making all 10 of us fell like we were his only table. When I was sure he missed someones request for more soda or ketchup, he didn’t. My guess is he grew up with sisters! He had enough guts to walk the dessert tray by our table. None of us could even begin to dream of dessert. WE WERE FULL. Towards the end of our meal the manager stopped by our table to ask how everything was. I always appreciate that.
For the best Cheeseburger in Hollywood, I still favor Hole in the Wall Burger, however, if you are looking to entertain some out of town guests, Hard Rock Cafe is the place to go! Right on Hollywood Blvd with the Walk of Fame and many other landmarks right out front.

So I visited the most awesome people in Colorado over X-mas break, The Jones. Todd’s parents let me slump around their home for a week while I decompressed from 2012. A Cheeseburger Date was necessary. I wondered if Connie & Doug could hang with my habit. I googled “best cheeseburger in Colorado”. Crave Real Burgers was at the top of the list and they even won the 2012 Denver Burger Battle. Wow! I was excited and hungry. Todd, his parents and I loaded into the truck and trekked to Castle Rock for our lunch.
The second I walked through the door of Crave I was pleased to have a 100% clear view of the grill including piles of some perfect bacon.
We were sat quickly, but not before we were able to drool a bit near the milkshake making counter. Yup! Reminded me a bit of GO! Burger. They also offered “adult” shakes here. (Here’s Connie & Doug eyeing the milkshake machine.)
(Doug was sporting his Broncos jersey for the big game this day 12/30. It must have been good luck because the Broncos killed the Chiefs 38-3 YOUCH!)
I, of course, ordered a chocolate/vanilla shake. Once our server Spencer came to take our food orders, I decided to see if he could handle my picky chick requests. He did. “Fries well done & could you please cut my Cheeseburger into 4?” “Absolutely!” Great customer service. Doug ordered the crazy SLOPPER-a green chile smothered cheeseburger over a grilled cheese sandwich, topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, poblanos, pico, sour cream and avocado. Yikes! Todd chose “3 Little Pigs”- pulled pork, ham, bacon, beef patty, cheese, and onion strings, yes that comes on a bun! It was HUGE!
Connie & I kept it a bit more basic. I did my usual plain Cheeseburger with Bacon. Connie got a stock cheeseburger.
When my shake arrived I almost ended up IN the glass. It was sooo thick. Too thick. I was finally able to drink it towards the end of my meal. :( Note to Crave: You need boba straws.
Connie reported her burger to have “looked pretty and tasted good.” Nothing she hadn’t had before, but good.
Todd LOVED his 3 Little Pigs. Pulled pork, beef pattie, bacon and ham covered in BBQ sauce. He is uber picky and was a very satisfied customer! This is Todd’s happily fed face:
The price for the extravagant selections surprised me- approx $11 & that included fries. It should ALWAYS include fries. Unless tater tots are available. Hey Crave: You should add a tater tot! Yeah!
My cheeseburger was really really good, even in 4’s. Juicy, thick perfect bacon and plenty of cheese. It was huge and cooked to my liking. Although my fries came out undone, however Spencer was quick to remedy the error with a fresh plate of golden crispy perfect fries. Thanks Spencer! You were a great server & I loved your green glasses.
About 4 months ago I was determined to have a Cheeseburger Date even though I was sick with the flu. So to GO Burger I went. I was unimpressed and the review was not so great & recently I realized I should give them a fair shake and try them again while I was not sick. The incredibly powerful, sweet & hungry Shannon Bevins, coincidently also my assistant at p!ay hair lounge braved the date.
In fact she insisted on paying partially in fact that I had treated her to a few meals (as her boss, shouldn’t I?!) and partially due to the mere fact that she is a very generous individual. She had no idea that I would be ordering not 1, but 2 GO Burgers. Last time I was worried when my food came out and it look wimpy. I wanted to be sure that my belly was stuffed this time around! Shannon called when we were 15 minutes away from GO Burger to see if they would add us to the seating list and they did! Therri, the host and as we later learned, also the GM, made sure we were sat quickly and that we were comfortable. I appreciated his hospitality. GO Burger was packed! It was a Saturday night in Hollywood, so of course this was no surprise. How quickly our ordered was taken and delivered to our table WAS a surprise!
Shannon went with the BLT with avocado. (They forgot the bacon, which was pretty funny, but remedied it quickly at our request.
I ordered not 1, but 2 GO Burgers with American Cheese. YUMMY!
Fries arrived hot and cooked to perfection! I must have obviously been out of it during my first Cheeseburger Date at GO Burger, cuz after this recent visit I highly recommend it! I finished 1.5 Burgers, BUT I did also have a belly full of their fabulous milkshake. Non-alcoholic this time around and delicious!
My last review of GO Burger was obviously way off since I was sick, but if you want some humor, here it is…
I was surprised to find chicken & waffles on the menu at The Six. Tempting, but I was there for the Cheeseburger of course! I’d read about it in AAA’s WestWays Magazine. Yes, I read every issue in hopes to find some new CA place that might be worth trying & The Six happened to be local & the article bragged about the burger. I headed over for a very late lunch at about 3:45p.m. The Six is located on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. It really is in the thick of it! Parking was fine when I was there, but I couldn’t imagine it at night when its busy. Be warned.
The space was small, but outfitted with recycled woods & up-cycled fixtures. It has a modern antique vibe. I sat outside. There is a beautiful large outdoor back patio area that was very nice. I could see enjoying a meal with a large group of friends in this area.
For beverages, I went for their lemonade.
When I asked the server if it was Minute Maid, she shot me a look of death and said “Oh no, we make it here.” Good. I don’t want to pay $3 a glass for store bought shit. Usually I find lemonade to be too tart, but The Six’s lemonade was perfect. The Cheeseburger was large and juicy. I enjoyed every last bite. The fries were crispy and came out in the fancy paper cone. I think that is just one way restaurants make it look like they are giving you a larger portion than they are. It was actually plenty given the size of the Cheeseburger.
I wish I would have tried out The Six during a busier time, because the service was a bit lax due to the simple fact that they were prepping for a dinner service that would start at 6:30p.m. They are closed from 4:30-6:30p.m. Now I also didn’t account for getting stuck in 5 o’clock traffic on my drive home, but so it goes. At least my belly was full, I had a smile on my face & the 25 Degrees Cheeseburger Date was now far behind me.

I called ahead for RSVP & was told they only take walk-ins. Hmmm okay. I had to valet park & we walked through the hotel on the extremely dangerous highly slippery tile floor to 25 Degrees.
We waited slightly for a booth. The interior was cool. Nothing mind blowing, but stylish. Once we were seated, our server *Randy made us feel very important. (*1 letter has been changed to protect the possibly innocent) I asked about the chocolate shake & he brought a round of waters. 3 of the girls were under drinking age, I was driving & I think Jessica didn’t want to be the only one with a “drink”. We stuck with water. He forgot I had mentioned that the shake sounded good. It was that annoying lapse of time until he finally returned and I ordered it. We ordered our Cheeseburgers. The fries arrived 15 minutes before the Cheeseburgers which was bummer since I ate all of mine before my Cheeseburger turned up.
After we ordered, we never really saw him again. He was busy with customers ordering alcohol. Our food was left on our table like a hit & run. No one asked "Is there anything else I can bring you?" Just barely worse that when they ask you that as they are walking away from your table. :( The size of the Cheeseburger was almost alarming, but also exciting since it was my birthday.
My Cheeseburger was good. Average good. However the meat was dry. :( The bun was better than average. When it came time to get the check I was almost ready to start walking out. Over 10 minutes after we requested it after already waiting 10 minutes since our table was cleared, it came. Finally we made it back to the valet to realize that 25 degrees could have validated our parking slip, only no one suggested it & i forgot. Arggghh. I didn’t want to brave a broken leg to go back for it, so I just paid full price and was ready to get the hell out of dodge. I have ZERO desire to go back. The service was more up then down that a roller coaster. The worst best part is that I am a GREAT tipper. I laughed when the check suggested 18%. After that lack of service, try 15%. I would have easily tipped over 20% for a great Cheeseburger Date. The best thing about this Cheeseburger Date was my guests! The girls were fun, funny & put up with my questionable driving of Todd’s Jeep. It seats 6, my mustang only seats 4, or 2 honestly. As I planned my 13th Cheeseburger Date I realized that I kept fantasizing about my 1st. Could it be like your first kiss? You remember it as amazing, however it really was a bit disgusting. Or was Hole in the Wall Burger the BEST Cheeseburger yet?
I decided to head back to Hole in the Wall for another pretzel bunned bacon Cheeseburger to see if the memory was spot on.
This was one of the few Cheeseburger Dates that Todd was not on with me, so I decided to take him too. But I worried that his expectations wouldn’t be met because of how much yapping about Hole in the Wall I had been doing on every other Cheeseburger Date we went on together.
So last time I went I didn’t realize there is free parking in back, so that was a plus. Upon walking in the door, it was super clean and we were immediately welcomed by Mike. We placed our order with a checklist, super easy & waited about 10 minutes.
The kitchen is open so you can actually sneak a peek of your Cheeseburger on the grill. It is always nice to see a well-maintained kitchen. Mike=
There is a huge selection of drinks. Todd was happy because they had Dr.Pepper.
When our order was up, Mike put huge pieces of paper on the table and placed our bags on top. He has so much pride in this establishment. I remember the owner Susan with the same attitude last visit as well. I love that!
I dug right in and everything was even better than I remembered. Absolutely amazing. My Cheeseburger was on a PERFECT pretzel bun. Not too chewy, but not too soft either. It was juicy, flavored perfectly and BIG! The Cheeseburger is so incredible that fries almost become unimportant. Imagine that? Unimportant fries? Yup. I said it. Todd devoured his Cheeseburger at an alarming speed. He was not disappointed!
I also love that they didn’t melt my cheese into oblivion. I’m one of those freaks that prefers cold American cheese on a warm patty.
When my twin friends, Monica & Nicole from Portland were coming to visit, I knew it was a great chance to hit up 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica for shopping & Hillstone for a much hyped Cheeseburger! Two of my clients from p!ay hair lounge, Anne & Lori, highly recommended Hillstone.
As we approached the restaurant, I was enamored by the architecture. The exterior was all slatted wood. Absolutely modern & striking! The girls enjoyed checking out the brightly lit kitchen through the windows on the street.
We had a 10:30p.m. reservation and were seated 10 minutes early.
The interior was even more impressive than the outside. More wood, two-story and an open kitchen. What more could I want? Oh yeah, an aerial view of the kitchen through a glass panel on my trek to the uber cool & modern Ladies’ room. Incredible.
Our server Michael was perfect. He made us feel like we were his only table, and trust me, we were not. He was friendly, fast and willing to take multiple pictures of the twins & I. We were starving as you can imagine. Lunch was millions of swallows behind us.
Within 6 minutes our Cheeseburgers landed on our table. 6 minutes! We were shocked by the speed of the kitchen. I pointed out to Michael that my bacon request didn’t make it on my plate & he quickly, running, returned from downstairs with my bacon. Yes, running.
My Cheeseburger was freshly ground in the a.m. and floating on a puffy, warm bun. The cheese was oozing onto my plate.
It was delicious. I inhaled it.
I was all smiles when I saw an almost matchstick fry pile. These fries were golden, crispy and begging to be demolished. None survived.
Of course we had to indulge in dessert. A HUGE warm 5 nut brownie topped with pure vanilla bean ice cream & caramel sauce. Yummy. I am writing this review at 9a.m. & want this meal again, right now!
Nothing was left undone at Hillstone. I was thoroughly impressed by the professionalism and kindness of the entire staff. So many smiles and hellos as we walked through restaurant. It didn’t hurt that I was flanked by two beautiful twin sisters!
Cheeseburger Kabab..What??!!- Cheeseburger Date #11
I knew I wanted to throw a wildcard into my Cheeseburger Dates & Tasty Burger “The Shish Kabab House”presented itself while I was jaunting around NoHo (North Hollywood) the other day. Lunch was on the agenda and Yelp reviews were high, so Tasty Burger it was. The name reminded me of Fosters Freeze or Tasti-Delight, so I figured it had to be good.
Wasn’t quite sure if my Cheeseburger was gonna come out shish kabab style, with a spear through it, or something. That would have been exciting! The décor was having as big of an identity crisis, as this restaurant’s theme.
It looked as though 3 generations decorated it without communicating.
As soon as I walked in, I could see a billboard style menu that had pics of all the food, Armenian, Greek, Mexican etc., but no Cheeseburgers. Hmmm. Then I saw a small pic of a Cheeseburger above the register. Phew!
I ordered my usual- Cheeseburger plain with bacon & fries. The 3 people working there were very, very, very friendly. They told me I come back to the counter after I ate, to pay. Behind the counter I could see them preparing meat. Looked like mountains of pork chops. I was seriously hoping for fresh beef in my Cheeseburger. I was not so lucky.
The meat patty was a pre-frozen then char-broiled thin, dry patty. The cheese was weird, but good. The fries were majestic. They were FAT fries & YES the fry pile was higher than the burger! They were greasy, well-cooked and well, FAT! Bun was of food truck quality= flat. I finished the Cheeseburger even though it was just ok. The fries filled me up. I wish Tasty Burger would recognize that some guests would appreciate fresh meat in a Cheeseburger too, not just a gyro. With all of that meat lying around it struck me as odd that they were okay serving a flat dry pre-frozen patty.
Service was a 10 through out my entire Tasty experience. They had a ton of pride in their establishment, which I loved. I did ask “What is your specialty?” and was told “Everything!”. No, not so much, try out Hole in the Wall Burger…. YES, I am still ranting about the pretzel bun. Still!
Now if you happen to be on the hunt for a mean pork chop, this could be your locale. They had an “A” rating posted. That’s always a relief to me.
At first glance at the menu I’m a bit nervous. It is quite festive. The Frank Costello Burger comes with golden sautéed apples. Not my speed. I have the plainest palette ever. I do appreciate how adventurous and unique the choices are, but I’m just hoping they’ll dumb it down for my order- Cheeseburger with only white cheddar and bacon. My server Heather is more than willing to accommodate my “vanilla” order. I’m seeing other people’s orders arrive and the burgers are MASSIVE! I’m excited. No milkshakes on the menu, but Heather offers to make me one with their dessert ice cream. I politely decline, but think it is a great effort to fully satisfy me.
Prohibition is small is square footage, and has a slight ode to speak easy’s of the late 1920’s. 1920-30 B&W films played across several screens on the walls. Fun to watch. Lots of high top tables and more of a bar feel than a restaurant. There are purse hooks under the high top tables, which gets major points from me.
I venture to the restroom & find a “love letter” on the wall. A sweet touch. Never seen that before.
On my way back I am able to pass by the kitchen & the see my Cheeseburger is on the ledge just ready to be picked up by Heather & brought to me. Kyle the chef poses with it. ;)
They recommend a RSVP on their website & that is probably a great idea during the weekend. I can imagine this place is quite popular & they have a TON of beer on tap.
Here’s my Cheeseburger! I’m in love!
The fries are beer battered, crispy & excellent! So good. There are plenty on the plate, but because the Cheeseburger is massive, the fry pile isn’t surpassing the height of my Cheeseburger. The only wish I have is a different bun. Theirs is not doing the ridiculous meat (a 7oz blend of short rib, beef brisket & chuck) justice. It is a bit rough & char-toasted. (Sorry Kyle) That really is the ONLY thing I would change.
I’m satisfied and starting to experience a food coma.
I started using a T-Zone Vibration machine at Yin Yang Acupuncture a month ago. It is probably one of the most minimal work, workouts I’ve ever done. When I started out I was skeptical, but guess what? It is increasing my lean muscle mass. I am getting toned under my layer of fat. I actually am getting a hard “core”, now just need to lose the inner tube that’s south of it!
I feel stronger.
Have less food cravings.
Have more energy.
Lin Lin, my acupuncturist of 3 years, is a huge part of my weight loss plan. (3 years ago she helped me lose 40 pounds in 4 month before I auditioned for Shear Genius 3) She treats me with needles every 3 weeks. This relieves stress which in turn reduces the heat in my body causing me to want to eat everything all the time.
I am doing vibration workouts 3x a week. Prior to stepping on the machine, Lin Lin works fat fighting herbs into my belly. I do mean “works” not massages. It has taken some getting used to, but I’m seeing results. I do two 12 minute cycles back to back with a water break in between. I stretch with a resistant band while on the machine. The platform vibrates, shifting you ever so slightly right & left. I feel fat jiggling that I didn’t even know I had. Does my big toe look fat in these sandals?
I have not had a major change in my weight. I have however noticed that my clothes are looser. Hopefully once I lose the layer of top fat, I will have a toned body underneath dying to break free and show off. Jackie Warner, watch your back! Stay tuned! Less Plumply Yours, Brig

The Cheeseburger Freestyle Event- Cheeseburger Date #9
I’ve got Olympic fever! I’ve surprisingly stepped away from my TV & the Olympics tonight to be in Granada Hills, California at Friday Food Fest. It is the most fantastic happening!
About 25 food trucks pull up every Friday night from 5-10p.m. & make some serious food for a hungry crowd of side walkers. I’m picking two top burger trucks to be in my Cheeseburger Freestyle Event, but they don’t know it! Da Burger Boss & Grill’em All will make me my signature Cheeseburger- Meat & American cheese with a side of fries & I’ll award a 1 GOLD & 1 SILVER award.
Grill’em All is heavy metal themed. Their logo reminds me of Metallica. I can tell these guys are loud! They’ve got a burger on their menu they call- Dee Snider- Peanut Butter, Jelly, Bacon & Sriracha. Whoa!
Da Burger Boss, well… do you see the shovel on the back bumper? Exactly. If I don’t like their burger I probably won’t tell them!
Da Burger Boss has a burger on their menu called The Patrolman served on a split donut. Interesting. Wonder if they’ve ever tried to get out of a speeding ticket with that one!
I’m hungry & it’s a good thing because I’m staring at not one, but two Cheeseburgers and piles of fries. Both look promising. I’m not worried that I’ll come out of this event hungry!
Grill’em All’s Cheeseburger is rare in the center. It is juicy, seasoned gently and is large. The fries are fresh cut & remind me of In & Out Burger’s fries done right. They remain crispy even after they get cold. This NEVER happens to fries. I’m impressed until I get to Da Burger Boss fries.
They call them Matchstick Fries. They are super thin. About ½ the diameter of McDonalds fries. They are AMAZING! I’m kinda falling in love right now. What Cheeseburger? I can’t stop hand to mouthing these fries. Yum yum yum. Da Burger Boss’s Cheeseburger tastes like meatloaf. Some may find this to be a good thing, I don’t. They have all kinds of stuff mixed into the patty, which is cooked medium throughout. It is okay.
Both of the buns are a bit flat, but I suppose that is one of the challenges when packing hundreds of buns in a truck. & almost any bun would seem flat compared to last week’s wonder bun from Eureka!Burger
I’m giving Grill’em All GOLD since this is a Cheeseburger event. Da Burger Boss takes SILVER, but trust me…If this was a fry event, they would have buried the competition. I can’t get over their matchstick fries. Delicious!
You can just imagine the looks I’m getting from the people around me as I go back and forth between two trays of food! Now to figure a way to make these trucks stop by p!ay hair lounge once a week! Haircuts in exchange for burgers? Hmmm.

I think it should be mandatory for all Californians to road trip the CA coast once every two years. I FINALLY after 36 years, got to check out Big Sur. Could it really be all that everyone always says? Um yeah. Wow!
I was all over Cali this weekend- Santa Clara for California Extreme, a classic arcade game convention. I pb’d (personal best) in Ms.Pacman- 107,000 & got in the top 5 on BurgerTime! Felt pretty good. Then went to Great America to get turned upside down on some rad roller coasters! Then down the coast through Big Sur & finally arriving in San Luis Obisbo to visit my friend Brit Tarr at Bluebird Salon. Which is a super unique Bumble & bumble salon!
She recommended Eureka!Burger as the best Cheeseburger in SLO. Who am I to argue with a local!
I knew from the second I walked up that I was gonna love it, because of their sign.
When I walked in I could not believe the size of Eureka!Burger. Massive, but very spread out. If you like beer, they have a ton on tap in the coolest display behind the bar. This restaurant is bi-level & I’m sure goes off at night. Opened in November.
This upstairs nook would be a cool spot to hang with friends, for sure! I dig some well placed wallpaper!
I order my usual. Beef, Bun, Bacon & American Cheese + Fries. The service is very friendly and unpretentious. I’m starving. When IT arrives, and I do mean “IT”. OMG. It looks delicious.
Todd is with me & his is no joke either. Check out the madness-
I start with the fries & they could use some crisping. I like mine near potato chip status & these were, well.. a bit limp. Don’t get me wrong though, when life gives you lemons… I mashed them with my fork and created my own side dish that I devoured.
The Cheeseburger, oh the Cheeseburger. Here was what Todd had to hear while I inhaled it- “Mmmm. This is soooo good.” x100.
The beef had a kick to it. The seasoning was perfect. Eureka!Burger Uses 100% Vegetarian Fed, Hormone & Antibiotic Free, All Natural Beef. I can appreciate that! My bun was resilient. With every bite I took it fluffed right back up. Like a memory foam bun! The buns are made by a local bakery and are topped with Paprika. Surprisingly good!

When I heard that smashburger was opening nearby, I freaked out! When Todd & I visit his parents in Colorado we go directly from the airport to smashburger. There isn’t even a question of “if” we are hungry. It is automatic. It is delicious & I always eat way way way too much.
After struggling to finish my 6th Cheeseburger Date, I knew some prep was in order for me to successfully devour this 7th Cheeseburger Date. I started to moderate my eating yesterday afternoon. I had to make room for this feast. I also knew I must invite my friend Marisa along. She is 7 months pregnant! Seemed like a sweet opportunity to catch up with her.
I was so pumped up about this date that I was hoping my expectations wouldn’t overtake reality. They didn’t. Before I arrived I signed up for their smashclub and got a coupon for a free smashburger. Cool deal! Thanks!
I was creating my custom burger within 5 minutes of walking through their door. The restaurant was uber casual & clean. Nothing was alarming except my hunger. I was starving! I ordered the double. You know, my fav is bun, meat, American cheese & bacon. I also ordered a B&W Haagen Daz shake & shoestring fries! Aw yeah!
I tried my best to remain calm while I waited for my food. My shake joined the party first & even had the “extra” in an additional silver metal cup. This really is like a double shake & I was going to demolish it all! Sooooo sweet & yummy! My food quickly followed & the fry pile was taller than the double Cheeseburger! #Pass!
I started on them first & honestly thought “I’m gonna need to order more of these.” Because they were stupid good. I almost finished the double burger. It was juicy and a bit greasy & I used about 5 napkins to control the drip factor. This was a GOOD thing! My pre-meal prep paid off. Most of the food and shake will only see the inside of my belly! I plowed this meal.
Marisa was super stoked too. She had also had smashburger in Colorado, but this time, her baby was doing flips in her tummy as she also enjoyed her burger!
So I guess we can say smashburger is “unborn baby approved!” & definitely “me approved” too!
